Every October, the John Baker school community hosts a jog-a-thon. While many schools hold such an event as a school fundraiser, at John Baker ES it has a special meaning. John Baker was a runner in college and was training for the Olympics when he also coached at our school. Each year when the students prepare to run, we talk about who John Baker was and why our school is named after him. Below is a poem written by John Baker.
Take One More StepA hill is not too hard to climb,
Take one step at a time. One step is not too much to take, One try is not too much to make. One step, one try, one song, one smile Will shortly stretch into a mile. And everything worthwhile was done By small steps taken one by one. To reach the goal you started for, Take one step more...take one step more. |
